Wenonah Summer Camp staff are outdoor education professionals, teachers,
university and college graduates/students or senior high school students that share
one thing in common: they are committed to providing each Wenonah camper with a
positive and lasting Camp experience. Our committed and caring leaders provide positive,
wholesome experiences in which the accomplishments of each child are valued.
Many staff are graduates of the Wenonah leadership training programs and were
themselves campers at Wenonah. All staff members have current certification in
lifeguarding and first aid. In addition to ongoing training throughout the year,
each Wenonah staff member participates in a nine day staff training program prior
to the start of Summer Camp.
Camp Wenonah has
high expectations of every staff member, and those are reflected in Wenonah's
hiring policies. Potential staff members, including those previously employed at
Camp Wenonah, submit an application each year to join the staff team. Each person
has an interview and must successfully complete a police check. In addition to maintaining
current lifeguarding and first aid qualifications, staff are expected to have qualifications
in a variety of program areas. This allows Wenonah to ensure that staff will provide
a diverse camp experience for each camper. The campers are at the very centre of everything at Wenonah. Camp's excellent staff to camper ratio (1:4 on average, 1:3 in water-based activities) means that your son or daughter benefits from consistent individual attention on a daily basis. This allows for greater opportunities for success in both Wenonah's instruction-based programs and day-to-day recreational activities.
For a number of years, Camp Wenonah has boasted one of the highest staff return rates in camping.
Over 90% of Camp staff have been previously employed at Wenonah. This means that staff
understand and support the Wenonah philosophy, are familiar with the Camp's expectations, and know how to
provide the best experience for Wenonah campers. Wenonah's veteran staff team helps create
an enriching experience for each camper.
Staff hiring typically begins in the October, and continues until all positions are filled. Interviews take place in Burlington in December.
