The Wenonah Advantage
Wenonah is family-owned. In our setting community living is emphasized and individual accomplishments are celebrated. Camp is home to 250 campers and 100+ staff members. Over 80% of our campers return to Wenonah year after year, allowing each child to build upon the personal growth that they achieved in previous summers. The size of the Wenonah community means that each child can learn new things and experience personal development in a safe and supportive environment.
We offer distinct programs for 5-12 year olds of varying lengths, including our popular WEEnonah program for 5 – 7 year olds and additional week-long introductory programs for older campers. All new campers and families are invited to see Camp and meet our staff at our New Camper Open House every June. We also make phone calls made to families of first time campers 48 hours after start of Camp Period so they know how their camper is adjusting to Camp.
Brad Laidlaw (Wenonah’s Executive Chef) was awarded Ski Canada’s award for Canada’s best fine dining. He has worked in the past with Glen Abbey Golf Club, Windermere House, Chateau Lake Louise, Blue Mountain Ski Club, and most recently as Executive Chef at Georgian Peaks Ski Club.
Wenonah’s food service team accommodates many dietary needs, and Wenonah is a nut free setting at all times.
We offer 30+ unique instructional and recreational programs including sailing, tennis, kayaking, whitewater kayaking, canoeing, paddlemaking, swim instruction, climbing, low ropes & initiatives, digital photography, paddleboarding, film & theatre, arts, environmental education, acoustic guitar, water volleyball, music and much more! Overnight canoe trips of varying lengths are also available.
The main Camp area is comprised of 100 acres of spectacular wilderness and sits on two lakes (Clear Lake and Saw Lake). Campers are accommodated in clean, well-ventilated cabins, and have easy access to private showers and flush toilets. Our facility includes a Health Centre (a quarter-million dollar facility) which is fully stocked to meet the health needs of campers.
Our year-round leadership team includes Founder/Executive Director Jeff Bradshaw, who is two term President of the Canadian Camping Association, a member of the Ontario Camps Association Board of Directors, and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Camping Fellowship since 1997. Jeff has 35+ years of Camp staff experience, and received Canada’s highest camping honour, the Ron Johnstone Award for Lifetime Achievement. Camp Director Geoff “Rudy” Williamson is currently in his 19th year with Camp Wenonah. As a past Counsellor, POLARIS Director, Section Director, and Assistant Director with Wenonah, he brings an extensive understanding of all facets of the Wenonah program and experience.
Upwards of 95% of staff each year are veteran members of the Wenonah community (alumni staff and campers). Staff members are outdoor education professionals, teachers, university and college graduates/students or senior high school students. Two registered nurses (and Camp Moms!) are onsite at all times.
Wenonah is a destination for many international campers and staff. Each year, our community is enriched by the dozens of international campers and staff who travel to Camp by plane, train, and automobile! Over 20 countries are represented at Camp each year.
Our two-year leadership development programs (POLARIS & WCIT) are one month experiences focusing on certification in program areas, leadership skill development and group and community facilitation skills. Leadership programs are available to 16 & 17 year olds. We also offer Wenonah Roots, a two or four-week pre-leadership program for 14 and 15 year olds.
